I didn't expect this to be such a scathing criticism of American culture and politics. I mean that as a compliment. It's kind of ballsy for a kids' movie. America is satirized as basically becoming one giant Wal-Mart, and Fred Willard shows up as, essentially, a Bush surrogate. They even have him say "stay the course."
Of course, kids won't get any of this, I'm sure it's more aimed at the parents. But damn. Good job.
The satire was a nice touch, I especially liked the "they live" directness of the billboards on the spaceship.
ReplyDeleteI also thought it went for the sad and unexpected more often then most modern kids/animated movies.
Its rare that any movie makes a world detailed enough that you can imagine that there is much more to it then what you are seeing much less two. When my only real complaint is that I wish I could have seen more of Wall-E alone in the deserted earth I think it means they did a good job.
i agree- i loved how like the first half of the movie basically had no dialogue, beyond the words "wall-e" and "eve".
